As managing director, Harem is responsible for the day to day running of 24-7 Steller Packing. He led a buyout of the business in November 2018, installing a new management team to introduce the changes that will ensure the Company’s long term success.
Harem was not a complete stranger to 24-7 Steller Packing. For over 10 years his recruitment company, 24/7 Employment Solutions, provided many of the temporary staff; pivotal to the operation of the business. When the opportunity to run the Company came, he had to act quickly. He had just two weeks to pull together a plan and the right people together.
Taking over the Company secured 30 permanent jobs and over 100 temporary jobs, something that was a major factor in his decision to buy 24-7 Steller Packing. It also brought in people Harem knew from the industry with vast experience, including site director Julian Williams-Dalson.
His past knowledge of the company ensured the new management team were able to hit the ground running, putting in place the right structure and highlighting quickly what else needed to be done.
Harem’s background reveals the drive and determination that has seen him arrive at an award-winning company that delivers hand assembly, pick and pack solutions, shrink wrapping, labelling, ink jetting and flow wrapping to some of the UK’s biggest retail; pharmaceutical; beauty and food and drink companies.
He came to the UK as a refugee from Kurdistan in 2002, starting as a fruit picker and then working in various jobs to earn money including working in a factory and as a pizza delivery driver.
In 2004, he started work at a recruitment agency as a shift co-ordinator managing daily bookings, gradually becoming more involved in recruitment as an account manager.
Four years later he opened his first business with a friend. Seeing a gap for industrial recruitment Harem decided to set up on his own in 2011, a move that would bring him into contact with 24-7 Steller Packing for the first time.
Learning English was the first challenge he set himself as part of his determination to build a new life in the UK. He now speaks the language fluently, has become a UK citizen and lives in Kent.
His hard work and determination to succeed has paid off. In 24-7 Steller Packing, Harem is ready for his next challenge.
“To me it is very important to know our customers, to know what they require and what they need from us, so that can act on their behalf and do an excellent job for them,” Harem says.
“It will be my satisfaction to see that we have picked up a business, saving many jobs and making the business a success.”
